NOTICE OF RACE

1. RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2 Racing rule 61 will be changed to require boats to notify the Race Committee immediately after finishing of their intent to protest

1.3 Class weight limits are waived.

1.4 Each boat shall carry a radio capable of transmitting and receiving VHF channel 73.

2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 As intended, the regatta is fun in nature and yachts are expected not to participate with more crew than there are sleeping accommodations for on the vessel.

2.2 The regatta is open to PHRF monohull boats that are 24-50 feet LOA, and all one-design keelboats with four or more entries between 19-35 feet LOA.

2.4 The Expressly for Fun Regatta is a qualifying event for the YRALIS Youth Challenge Cup. Please be sure to make a note of this when entering via Yacht Scoring.

Competitors can enter via the Yacht Scoring Website for this Event.

3. FEES

The entry fee for all classes is $50. Online entry is preferred however entry by fax is acceptable. Completed entries must be received no later than 12pm on Tuesday, July 4th. Paper entries will accepted with an additional $25 charge. Online registration and electronic entry fee payment are available at yachtscoring.com. Entries received after this date will be accepted if they include a $25 late fee. The late entry deadline is Friday July 7th at 12pm.

4. RACE FORMAT

The regatta will consist of a two races in pursuit format individually scored and not as a series.

5. SCHEDULE

5.1 Dates of racing:

Saturday, July 8th – warning at 1125 at Can “1” NE of Execution Rocks

Sunday, July 9th – warning at 1115 at Red Nun “6” 0.9 nm NW of East Fort Point

5.2 Number of races: All classes one race per day.

6. MEASUREMENTS

Each boat shall produce a valid PHRF rating certificate. PHRF certificates from other areas will be adjusted to conform to the YRA of LIS. The race committee based upon best available information will assign PHRF handicaps for boats not rated by the YRA of LIS.

7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available after no later than 0900 on Monday, July 3rd at Huguenot Yacht Club and on Yachtscoring.com

8. VENUE and COURSES

8.1 At 1130, Saturday, July 8th the rendezvous for the start will be at Green Can “1” 0.8 nm north of Execution Rocks and the Finish will be Red Nun “6” 0.9 nm NW of East Fort Point

8.2 At 1200, Sunday, July 9th the rendezvous for the start will be Red Nun “6” 0.9 nm NW of East Fort Point and the Finish will be Green Can “1” 0.8 nm north of Execution Rocks

8.3 The courses to be sailed will be from the start to finish as described in above. If wind conditions are deemed to be insufficient to start will be moved to a buoy closer to the finish as outlined in the Race Instructions.

9. PENALTY SYSTEM

US Sailing prescription Appendix V will apply for all classes, this changes rule 44.1

Competitors are advised to review V1  PENALTY AT THE TIME OF AN INCIDENT, and V2  PENALTY TAKEN AFTER A RACE

10. SCORING

The first boat to finish will be first; the second boat to finish will be second; the third boat to finish will be third and so forth.

11. RADIO COMMUNICATION

11.1 The Race Committee may provide general information to competitors on VHF Channel 73. Information so provided will not be subject to action under Rule 62.

11.2 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

12. PRIZES

Prizes will be given as follows: Daily Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as many valuable baubles and trinkets will be dispersed seemingly at random to the contestants that participate in each race and as such may not be solely based on merit, effort or aptitude.

13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

14. INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $100,000.00 per incident or the equivalent.
