To JSA member program leaders,
Recently, JSA board members contacted a sample of nineteen JSA sailing programs to ask how they are planning for safe operations this summer, assuming permission is given by state and local governments.
The report from this survey may now be viewed on the JSA website. It provides information about topics like Health & Safety, Program Options, Enrollment Levels, and Instructor Hiring. Also included are links to resources from other organizations that have published guides for youth activities.
To simplify getting input from all our member programs, the questions discussed in phone calls and emails with the JSA board members have been converted to an online survey that may be viewed here. After your program’s online survey response is received, the JSA board member designated for your program will get in touch with you to follow up.
JSA representatives have also been sharing with US Sailing the information provided by our community. During this week, US Sailing has two live streaming sessions scheduled on its Starboard Portal site, which should be very informative for clubs and junior programs:
- May 6 at 2:00 pm, youth director John Pearce will host a discussion aboutIdeas for Adapting Junior Sailing Programs
- May 7 at 5:30 pm, will be a broader discussion, including the topics Process for Return to Sailing, Medical Considerations, Youth Sailing, and Race Management
After we have digested those two updates from US Sailing, JSA will schedule a virtual meeting to discuss the latest information about junior sailing program operations this summer.
And then on May 19 at 7 pm, the rescheduled Event Management Workshop will be held in a virtual meeting format to address the challenges of running junior sailing regattas.
All the best,
Bob Whittredge
